DESCRIPTION

1971 Triumph GT6 MK II. Saffron yellow with tan ambla upholstery. The GT6 was originally designed as a four-cylinder tin-top counterpart to the Spitfire, but when Triumph’s development team realised that the coupe was somewhat slower than the roadster, they came up with the obvious solution of fitting the straight-six engine from the 2000 saloon and Vitesse. In the process, they had unwittingly produced a miniature E-Type Jaguar, as well as a very effective rival to the recently-launched MGB GT. The extra power of the 2.0-litre stuffed into the Spitfire’s chassis soon earned it a reputation for being great in a straight line, but not so good in corners as the swing-axle rear suspension was prone to sudden lift-off oversteer quickly turning a scenic drive into a drive through the scenery. This problem was solved with the arrival of the GT6 Mk2 in late 1968 thanks to a revised rear suspension set up which reversed the wishbone mountings and introduced Retroflex driveshaft couplings. This beautiful GT6 comes to us from a private collection of outstanding British sports cars. It has been subject to an earlier Sherwood’s Restoration and still presents beautifully. It was subject to an RAC report in 2001 and the examiner quoted that 'it would be hard to find a better example'. At that time, the mileage was 48,900 and the speedometer still only shows 73,368 miles, this is backed up by a huge amount of old mot certificates on file. The lovely reupholstered interior still retails its original push-button Motorola radio and there is a comprehensive history file. The car was subject to a glass out repaint during 2019 and the car has been converted to run on unleaded fuel. Running and driving just as you would expect the car is one that is ready to show or join any collection. The car is tax and mot exempt however we will apply a new mot upon sale for your own peace of mind. Absolutely any inspection is welcome. All major debit and credit cards accepted. Part exchange considered. Finance arranged. Free U.K mainland delivery. Please contact us for any further information.
