DESCRIPTION

1991 Peugeot 205 Roland Garros Convertible. Pinewood Green with White half leather and grey cloth upholstery and red seat belts. Peugeot became the official car — and one of the official sponsors — of the well-known Roland-Garros tennis tournament in 1989. It introduced a special edition of the 205 that same year in order to capitalize on the partnership. Only available as a three-door hatchback and as a two-door convertible, the Roland-Garros was positioned near the top of the 205 hierarchy. Both body styles were offered exclusively in a model-specific shade of dark green, and they were fitted with special 13-inch alloy wheels. They were instantly recognizable from other members of the 205 lineup thanks to Roland-Garros stickers on both doors, and an emblem on the right side of the trunk lid. With a limited production run of just 150 Roland Garros editions ever being produced for the UK market, the 205’s frankly frightening attrition rate makes this a very rare car indeed – and given its provenance and condition might just be one of the very best one being offered for sale today. Built by Pininfarina alongside the Ferrari Testarossa, the 205 Cabriolet cost more than £12,980 when it was new, which was a hefty sum for what was a small car. What is astonishing about this 205 is that it has had just one owner from new and covered just 41,000 miles during its life, some 31 years. The all-important ‘Pininfarina’ and ‘Roland Garros’ badging and decals are intact and the original steering wheel still in place. Supplied new by McDonald Motors (Glasgow) Ltd on 31st January 1991 to Mr Murray for his company but retained by himself for all these years with him being the only driver of the car, and only used very occasionally. The car is totally original and exactly as it left the showroom in 1991. The Peugeot still retains its original book pack with all books present and also both keys supplied from new. Mr Murray has maintained the car very well and any work required was carried out. The paintwork is still very good and the limited edition leather and cloth upholstery showing minimal wear. The electric folding roof was replaced with a brand new one and it works as it should rising and falling on command and sealing tightly and the rear plastic window is clear and hasn’t gone milky and cloudy like so many do. The tonneau cover is also in great shape - and white is always an eye-catching colour, isn’t it?. The 1.4 litre engine starts on demand and runs sweetly, just as expected by such a low mileage car. The drive is also very impressive, with the 205 performing without fault and thoroughly enjoyable around the local lanes. Absolutely any inspection is welcome. All major debit and credit cards accepted. Part exchange considered. Finance arranged. Free U.K mainland delivery. Please contact us for any further information.
