1925 Humber 12/25 Tourer. Introduced in 1925, the 12/25 was an evolution of its 11.4hp predecessor and another in a long line of nicely engineered, high quality Humber models. Based around a ladder frame chassis equipped with all-round semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension and rear wheel drum brakes, the newcomer was powered by a 1795cc engine allied to four-speed manual transmission. The four-cylinder unit featured inlet over exhaust valvegear and reputedly enabled the Humber to exceed 50mph. A cut above rivals from the likes of Austin, Morris and Riley, the 12/25 could be had in 2/3-Seater, 4-Seater, Saloon, Coupe or All-Weather guises. The most popular variant, the 4-Seater Tourer, was priced at a not inconsiderable £440 when new.This is a great vintage touring car. It is very spacious for all passengers. Affectionately known as 'Neddy' there is a wealth of accompanying history. The Humber was dispatched from the factory on 16th January 1925 and supplied new via dealers Wooldridge & Sons of Crewe. The Tourer is highly original and an absolute delight, still running on the correct beaded edge wheels with 820x120 tyres. The 12/25 featured a four-cylinder monobloc 1795cc engine allied to four-speed manual transmission. It has transmission and rear wheel brakes. The gate-change gear lever and handbrake are situated on the right of the driver and the car has a central accelerator pedal. It is finished in Dark Cherry Red with Black wings and the interior is in original 'deep buttoned' Brown leather which is distressed in places and partially re-upholstered. It has a Vee-windscreen, rear luggage rack and large bulb horn, with the spare wheel mounted on the near-side running board. The car also benefits from Auster rear screen, which makes travelling in the rear with the hood down much more pleasurable! It is believed to be the original specification in all respects. It has been known to the Humber Register since 1972 and is well catered for by this enthusiastic club. In 2009 the car had a bare metal respray and an extensive engine overhaul together with much mechanical fettling. It has done approximately 1,000 miles since then.
