DESCRIPTION

1961 BMW Isetta 300. Yellow and Black with a black leather bench seat and black mohair opening roof. This is a very rare Brighton built U.K right hand drive Isetta. Built by the Italian firm of Iso, the Isetta caused a sensation when it was lunched at the Turin Motor Show in November 1953. Unlike anything seen before, not only was it small (only 7.5ft long by 4.5ft wide) and egg-shaped with bubble-type windows, but the entire front end of the car hinged outwards to allow entry and exit. The steering wheel and instrument panel also swung out with the door as this made access to the single bench seat easier. The Isetta soon captured the attention of BMW who made a deal to design and manufacture their own version of the car under licence. BMW quickly made many changes, including a new 247cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine, borrowed from the BMW R25 motorcycle, that made 12bhp and boosted top speed to around 50mph. In 1956 they fitted longer side windows and a larger 298cc engine to produce the BMW Isetta 300, now with a heady 13bhp and improved torque that made hill climbing a little easier. Between 1957 and 1962 BMW also produced the 300 in RHD at a factory in the former Brighton railway works. Dating from 1961, this Isetta 300 is one of those Brighton-built cars and has been with its last keeper for 9 years, and previously the owner was for 18 years. An older restoration that still presents well it has always been maintained as required. Only sparingly used during the last few years and always kept garaged it is in highly original order throughout, it is showing only 16,000 miles on the clock which is more than likely correct. A small history file accompanies the Isetta containing some old mot’s, V5’s and invoices. Recently treated to some new parts with an invoice on file it is running and driving well and ready for some new adventures. With microcar values rising strongly of late we see this car as a sound investment. Now tax and mot exempt and with great value classic insurance ownership costs are minimal. Absolutely any inspection welcome. All major debit and credit cards accepted. Part exchange considered. Finance arranged, Free U.K mainland delivery.
