1961 Austin Healey MK I Frogeye Sprite. Old English White with Black upholstery with white piping and a new black hood and side screens. According to the Heritage certificate in the history file the Sprite was built in April 1960 and despatched to the U.S the same month. The car spent its life in America until 2018 when it was repatriated from sunny California and subject to a complete nut and built restoration, it is a matching numbers car and no expense was spared and the work carried out included stripping the car completely to a bare shell, fully prepped and repaired where necessary, reassembled paying special attention to the shuts and gaps. The engine was completely rebuilt with new mains and big ends, valves ground in and new double springs. A duplex timing chain and gears were fitted along with all gaskets, water pump and hoses and new engine mountings. Original smooth case gearbox was fitted with new slave cylinder and all synchromesh working correctly in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. A new fuse box was fitted, a rebrushed dynamo, new control box, electrical tachometer along with lights and wiring as required. The brakes were totally replaced with the fitting of new drums, wheel cylinders,shoes,hoses and pipes. Dual master cylinder and handbrake cable. The front suspension was completely stripped, cleaned, painted and reassembled with all new bushes and new steering rack. The rear suspension stripped, road springs reset with all suspension arms and bushes pressed in. A new fuel tank was fitted along with all hoses, pipes and filters, an SU pump, carburettors serviced and a complete exhaust system fitted. A brand new black hood was purchased along with side screens and also replaced were new seat squabs, seat covers, door panels and dashboard. The boot area carpeted. We have invoices on file for all the parts purchased during the rebuild as well as a lovely photographic record of the restoration. The car has only covered 600 miles since all of the above work was completed. The Frogeye runs and drives just as you would expect from a car that has been rebuilt to such a high standard and is a car perfect for either the collector or enthusiast to enjoy.
