DESCRIPTION

1939 Austin 10/4 Sliding Head Cambridge. Blue / Black with blue leather upholstery. This lovely early Austin has a remarkable history and a lovely story to tell. BVH 341 was purchased new on April 13th 1939 by Miss Florence Adela Baddeley ( aged 35 ) from Huddersfield Austin dealers W.H. Atkinson & Co. Miss Baddeley was the company secretary and later Chairperson of Baddeley Bros. Ltd a bus and coach operator of Holmfirth, West Yorkshire from 1919 to 1976. The car was little used during WW2 and thence ran during the 1950’s until it was put into storage in 1961 at Honley where it remained until early 1983 when it was auctioned upon the passing of Miss Baddeley. At this point the Austin had covered just over 15,600 miles since new. During 1983/84 it was run for less than 100 miles before re entering storage, and subsequently sold to its third owner who scarcely used the car and placed it for sale in 1996. The fourth owner during 1997/98 set about restoring the car to its former glory, similar to how it left the Longbridge production line in 1939. The car has since covered the additional miles around the South of England visiting various car shows as an active member of The Austin 10 Drivers Club and picking up lots of plaudits along the way. The total mileage now covered is just 27,619 from new, in amazingly 83 years. Instead of the usual 1125cc engine fitted to this model BVH 341 has the 1141cc side valve unit with aluminium cylinder head producing 38 BHP. This is the variant that was used in the Austin WW2 pick up truck though it is the original engine indeed. A fabulous history file details all of the above and includes the original buff log book issued to Miss Baddeley, the car still retaining its original registration number. Lots of money has been spent over the last few years which includes all wheels shot blasted and powder coated, new tubes and tyres. Shock absorbers refurbished, steering box overhauled, new brakes, new battery and new clutch. Front block bushes replaced. This Austin is a very special car with fantastic provenance and we are absolutely delighted to offer it for sale, and unfortunately only available due to bereavement. Coming complete with an original fitted suitcase and a large amount of spares it is just ready for its new custodian. Running and driving well it is ready for the season ahead, displaying a beautiful patina and not overly restored like many. Absolutely any inspection welcome. All major debit and credit cards accepted. Part exchange considered. Free U.K mainland delivery. Please contact us for any further information. Lots more pictures on our website.
